Louis Roederer is a champagne producer from Reims. The house was founded in 1776, which was succeeded and renamed by Louis Roderer in 1833. The vinery holds his name ever since. This winery is one of the few independent and family estates, which, unlike many, makes its famous champagnes from the grapes they grow on 240ha exclusively Grand and Premier Cru vineyards sorted with Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier. In the middle of the 19th century they started exporting and became the official supplier of the Russian Court. Then, in 1876, the famous “Cristal”, the first Cuvée de Prestige dedicated to the Russian emperor Alexander II, arises. Only after the fall of the Russian Empire, Cristal started to be made commercially but in limited series in order to maintain the quality gained. Today, they export over 3 million bottles in 100 countries around the world.
